tailored
societies

Imagine a world that has cities and towns and other living spaces are exactly what you want.
The idea here is to tailor a space to suit your needs. We already do it within our homes but are too keen on shutting the curtains to the world outside that we interact with everyday. Its something I have been thinking about for a while. I originally began to think that maybe it would be possible to make people happy using the concept of decades. How that works is you would be able to live in the 1980's or the 1950's and so on. Quite bizar I agree but when you think about it, there will be a time in your life you were at your happiest and most productive. You just maybe have never had the opportunity to re-kindle that way of life because the world changes so fast.
I do not pretend I know all the answers on this idea, however I think if anyone who reads this will see the sanity behind the madness. You then may be the person that could contribute to the idea of Tailored Societies.
I got this idea while watching a BBC program about a psychologist who had a town built and filled the town with pensioners who had health ailments. The pensioners were left on the bus when they arrived in the town. Some of the pensioners relied on others in their everyday life to do daily tasks. The pensioners were told they would have to fend for themselves. They dragged their own suit cases off the bus, they found the house they were staying in and in the whole journey no one helped them.
The town was put into an era of the past. The decade lets say was 1950 and the experiment was in 1980. Thirty years of a difference back in time.
What emerged from the experiment was that the new environment, one that the pensioners were used to in the 1950's brought to the surface emotions such as happiness and joy. The whole change made the pensioners feel young again and they began to move in such a way and think in such a way that alowed them to overcome the constraints of their aging bodies and live again. They began to enjoy life and become alive, begining to push them selves that little bit harder to achieve tasks that they could not achieve a month or so earlier. The environment changed their beliefs and their abilities to the point that after the experiment was over, the pensioners did not struggle on to the bus as they had did originally when they arrived. I have taken the inspiration for Tailored Societies from that experiment. I will look out all the details on it and upload it soon.
Now how could we apply this to our own world in a more global capacity?
For me its all about timelines, just like the experiment in the fake 1950'S. The fIrst thing to recognise is that since you began reading this page of text the world has changed. You will not be aware of the changes because their are so many of them globally. You will hear some on the news such as global market news or politics news and other stories. You will be aware that some of the changes will affect your life. Such as a change in America could change the way you live no matter where your home is in the world. Just because America is such a powerful country and that is why you would hear about it.
The world is changing so fast; I think it is the pace of change that is the reason why there are so many problems in the world. Its because we all are out of our happy zones. Our happy zones are the places in our lives that we felt happiest in. Unfortunatly those zones pass through our lives as part of a fast paced society and ever changing world throughout the decades. Technology plays its part also by changing behavour, making a cup of coffee is different now than it was 20 years ago. We have modern machines and various flavours of coffee to enhamce the experience. If you applied the tailored societies principles to the coffee making process, what you would have to do for you to enter the happy zone you would simply be to buy a coffee machine that is of the style and year you liked best from that happy time.
The same concept applies to tailored societies with the aim being to reach your happy zone in real everyday daily life.
My observation is that people adjust daily, minute by minute. If they are aways adjusting to fit into society. Within that process of daily adjustment they do not have time to stop and enjoy the moment they are living. Fast paced life, even in the slow paced countries is still a pace of change. Taking part is essential so that we do not get left behind. Presure, stress, ambition, success, failure are all part of the world deem our daily lives. A tough existance when we live alongside 6 billion other people.
Improvments can be made, the pensioners that were placed into an artificial 1950's , had their health improve. I would argue they found their happy zone. The happy zone improved their well being. I believe that we all experience some sort of unhappiness that makes us not the proper human beings we were meant to be, because our society does not meet our needs as individuals. Individually we have all experienced happy zones, and those happy times could be relived daily if we wanted them too.
This is how it would work.
Take a family and single person and a couple who live together or are married and so on. The family has two adults and two children. The familys mother and father met in the 1970's which was a great time for them. Dad plays all his old songs still and mum still wears the fashion of the 1970's mixed in with all the modern styles. The children are brought up with both parents having these happy zone moments.(The children still have their lives to explore so it would be too soon to work out their happy zone.)
The father and mother are happier in the 1970's and have objects from that era to remind them of the happy times, such as getting married. The tailored societies concept would allow them to live in a place that was similar to the 1970's and their children could live there too because they are still growing up.
Lets take the single person who may like the 1980's and the couple like the 1990's. Recreating all of these decades would be achievable along with recreating happy zones for them. Living in a decade that made them happier than the one they are living in at present.
This next bit is the part that brings the whole concept together. First though its important to relise one thing. I am making a point that the reason we as citizens cannot stay happy and enjoy life as we would like to, is because we are pushed along with the pace the world and its changes. Therefore we never get the chance to settle down and enjoy life.
We all know when we were happier, we make it shown in our homes, our stories and other ways to recall the better times of our lives. I remember this and I remember that and so on...
I believe we are all living in a timeline that is not suited to us. This why there is so much stress, illness, and unhappiness in our world. Ask yourself this - When was the last time you were really happy? Maybe you have great days and bad days, or maybe you switch off to teh world and just keep yourself to your self. Or is it a case of you work constantly because if you stop you know your lifestyle would end as you know it?
See if you feel there was a happier time, then their probably was. The timeline you are in just now will be the wrong timeline for you, your not suited to its way of operating and fuctioning. Maybe technology is too much for you or the media is annoying you with constant bombardment of sad news stories. What ever it is, you do not fit in with the world your living in. Wouldn't it be great of you could just walk into a world that suited you, such as the 1970's or 80's or it may be the 1920's, the point is you would be able to do it. Through using the concept of tailored societies you would be able to go a time that gave you your happy times in what would be your happy zone.
If you go back to the story that was said about the pensioners and the 1950's town, it shows that humans will adapt to their environment. It also shows its the present environment thats convincing people that they are the way they are. People are reacting to the present society. There are happier times in peoples past when they were at happy moments in their lives.
Those are the times people should return to. They do not have to keep up with the changing world. They just have to enter a world that they want to enter and not one that is alien to them.
An example of a happy zone exsitng already is the zone of monarchy and parliaments. Notice how palaces and goverment debating platforms hold their history and never change much? It is a perfect example of how it is possible to have a bubble within an evolving society. The bubble acts as a time capsule, nothing changes in that bubble, even though the external world changes minute by minute, decade by decade. The bubble becomes a happy zone, and a place that is tailored to a design that suits the people living and working within that bubble. It becomes a tailored society and nothing harms it over long periods of time.
In my opinion we can create our own world, one that many other like minded folk will also wish to join. There is room for many types of worlds known as a tailored societies to make happy zones for all the people who wish to return to their happiest time. I think it would make for a better collective of societies. We at present have such bubbles in a lesser number compared to the external world. We also have many different types of societies around the planet.
